HSBC Global Asset Management Expands Emerging Markets Debt Team to Extend Leadership in Growing Asset Class

To extend HSBC Global Asset Management’s (HSBC) leadership in global emerging markets debt investing and to address the growing significance of emerging markets debt as an asset class, HSBC has expanded its Global Emerging Markets Debt (EMD) investment team with the appointment of three new members. New team members include Nishant Updahyay, portfolio manager; Scott Davis, portfolio engineer; and Tatiana Brikulskaya, credit analyst.

Since 2007, EMD has more than doubled in size to about $7.3 trillion and has developed into an exceptionally multi-faceted asset class, composed of numerous segments. “With the new additions to our team, we are wellpositioned to capitalize on the shifting dynamics and increasing complexities within all segments of EMD,” said Guillermo Osses, Head of the Global Emerging Markets Debt Portfolio Management Team at HSBC.

Nishant Updahyay joins HSBC’s emerging markets debt portfolio management team to focus primarily on hard currency sovereign portfolios, along with hard and local currency benchmark portfolios. Updahyay brings compelling expertise in EMD hard currency and a range of sophisticated instruments and portfolio techniques. Previously he worked at Pimco where he was a portfolio manager for diversified income portfolios (EMD and credit).

Scott Davis, CFA comes to the emerging markets debt portfolio engineering team as a dedicated trader, primarily responsible for trading hard currency sovereign and corporate bonds. Previously Davis worked as a fixed income trader at Aberdeen Asset Management and has served as an analyst in the industry since 2005. The appointment of Davis enables the HSBC portfolio management teams to concentrate further on research and valuation.

Tatiana Brikulskaya joins the team as an emerging markets corporate credit analyst and will be responsible for making investment recommendations. She will also be a member of the HSBC Global Credit Research platform. Previously Brikulskaya worked with UniCredit Bank AG, where she was a credit analyst covering North American and Western European corporates.

Additionally, two current members of the HSBC Global Asset Management emerging markets debt team will now assume full portfolio management assignments. Vinayak Potti, CFA will focus on the HSBC Total Return emerging markets debt strategies, while Jaymeson Kumm, CFA will concentrate on hard currency corporate and sovereign portfolios.
