Kontron launches new line of enterprise network appliances for CSPs to deliver versatile and cost-efficient vCPE managed services

Kontron, a global provider of cloud and carrier-class integrated infrastructure platforms, announced today the introduction of its Kontron SYMKLOUD customer premise equipment (vCPE) platforms for virtualized services. Ranging in size, functionalities, and architectures, these new devices will give communication service provider (CSPs) the means to deploy best-of-breed cloud-to-edge virtualized managed solutions across their network functions virtualization (NFV) infrastructure.

This complements – and is symbiotically tied to – the recently released Kontron SYMKLOUD OpenStack Platform for CSPs to rapidly build OpenStack environments for NFVi-built services. Kontron will illustrate the effectiveness of both Kontron SYMKLOUD product lines as part of an end-to-end vCPE NFVi demonstration during Mobile World Congress – February 27 to March 2, 2017 – in Barcelona, Spain at Stand 5H, Hall 5.

Communication service providers (CSPs) who seek out flexible vCPE solutions based on commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware can start with the Kontron SYMKLOUD AP-100 appliance, an Intel Atom®-based network device that can support any number of business client services. The very compact AP-100 is designed with six GbE LAN ports, support for QuickAssist Crypto Acceleration, an expansion slot for WiFi or LTE interface, and is customizable for service provider branding.

Featured in the live end-to-end vCPE MWC demonstration, the AP-100 is integrated with the Brocade® vRouter for advanced virtual routing (vRouter) of live video consumption which is being managed in the ‘carrier cloud’ by the Kontron SYMKLOUD OpenStack Platform. Running on top are two concurrent 3rd party VNFs – the F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM), or vLB, which directs traffic to the Fortinet FortiGate (NGFW), or vFW, to block access to the video usage.

“This is only the start of our CPE strategy as more devices with more options will become available to meet the distinctive requirements of CSPs,” said Antoine Sirois, Director, Product Management, Kontron, Communications, Business. “Whether CSPs desire to implement full cloud solutions or various hybrid on-premise models, we expect to cater to both requirements.”
