Kontron adds new hardware for cloud and network video delivery

-

Kontron, a global provider of cloud and carrier-class integrated infrastructure platforms, today launched two new commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) SYMKLOUD hardware platforms that complete the current portfolio of converged video platform solutions for small, medium and large, cloud-based video delivery infrastructure.

The new platforms cater to Kontron ISV partners who seek to match the integration of various media and OTT software delivery solutions for their service provider clients who deploy different-sized video services across various regions of the world.

SYMKLOUD AP-1430 entry-level

This entry-level 1U platform is designed to support up to 8 HD streams at 30fps using a single socket Intel® Core(TM) processor or an Intel® Xeon® E3-1200 Series processor with integrated Iris® Pro Graphics. It features 3x NIP expansion slots for 1G/10G/40G/fiber/copper/bypass modules, plus one extra slot for half-height PCIe boards for SDI, storage, and security, among others.

SYMKLOUD MS-1300 Series mid-level

Based on the same design concept as its larger counterpart, the MS2900 Series, the MS-1300 is a 1U platform that supports three modular server nodes and one modular switch (1GbE/10GbE/20GbE to the fabric). With three MSP8050 modular servers – each with two independent Intel Xeon E3-1578L v5 processors and Intel Iris Pro Graphics P580 graphics processors – the MS-1300 can stream up to 90 HD video workloads (1080p-to-1080p/AVC-to-HEVC) at 30fps.

SYMKLOUD MS-2900 Series cloud-network large scale

The above platforms complement the ever-popular, high-density 2U SYMKLOUD MS2900 Series of converged infrastructure platforms. Using the same MSP8050 server nodes, the MS2900 Series platforms can support up to 270 streams (1080p-to-1080p/AVC-to-HEVC) at 30fps, and feature two modular switches for redundancy.
Its overall high compute density and power efficiencies add up to a significant cost-per-stream savings.

The MS2900 Series are also used for cloud provisioning as the SYMKLOUD OpenStack Platform, based on Canonical Openstack and various tools. Moreover, Kontron has recently introduced support for Ironic to efficiently run OpenStack Bare Metal deployments.

“Service providers are moving towards cloud infrastructure to efficiently manage and deliver content and ultimately reduce operating costs,” said Benoit Robert, VP of Strategy and Marketing, Kontron, Communications, Business. “Our new integrated platforms are designed to consolidate multiple IP video functions into the appropriate high-density hardware and software solutions.”
