Employee Shareholding: Essilor awarded a Prize for its Governance
Essilor was awarded a Prize for its Governance at the 11th Edition of the French Grand Prix FAS for Employee Shareholding on 15 December in Paris, France. This award recognizes Essilor’s activities to promote employee share ownership and place its employee shareholders at the heart of the company’s governance.
Essilor is deeply committed to employee share ownership. The 2015 FAS jury highlighted the Group’s exemplary governance model, which closely connects 17,000 shareholders (employees, retirees and former employees) to the company’s activity, with three representatives from the employee shareholders sitting on the Board of Directors and a vote of confidence from the employee shareholders association, each year, in the company’s strategy and its human resources policy.
“Employee share ownership has been at the heart of our company culture since Essilor’s creation. By encouraging our teams’ active engagement, employee shareholding and the associated governance have enabled the Group to sustain its high level of performance. The global expansion of employee ownership reflects our desire to unite our employees’ and our company’s interests around the shared goal which is Essilor’s success. Our governance also reflects this ambition: it promotes dialogue and associates employee shareholders in the Group’s major decisions and in its mission of improving lives by improving sight,” commented Hubert Sagnières, Chairman and CEO of Essilor International.
Employee shareholding currently corresponds to more than 8% of share capital. This is primarily held by members of the Valoptec Association that was created in 1972, at the same time as Essilor came into being through the merger of Essel and Silor.
Valoptec reflects the founding principles that the Group has been promoting for more than 165 years and encourages the long-term commitment of its employee shareholders.
